At Hoburne Dental Practice we’ve cared for the smiles of Christchurch for more than 30 years. Our general dentistry is built around one simple idea: prevention first. Regular check-ups and hygiene visits help us spot small problems before they become big ones — saving you discomfort, time and cost.
At every examination your dentist will assess your teeth, gums and mouth, screen for oral cancer, and talk you through anything we find — in plain English, with no pressure. Together with regular hygiene appointments, this is the most effective way to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Most of our patients need nothing more than routine care, and that’s exactly how we like it.
If a tooth does develop decay or damage, a filling restores its strength and protects it from further harm. We use tooth-coloured composite fillings that are matched to your natural shade, so they’re virtually invisible — whether the tooth is at the front or the back of your mouth.
Having a filling is a straightforward appointment. The area is gently numbed, the decay is removed, and the filling is shaped and polished to feel like part of your own tooth. Most fillings are completed in a single visit.
Modern white fillings are strong, long-lasting and free of metal. If you have older silver (amalgam) fillings, we can replace them with natural-looking composite alternatives when they reach the end of their life.
For small gaps between teeth, we also offer the Bioclear method — a precise composite technique that closes spaces and improves the shape of your smile without crowns or drilling healthy tooth away.
Good habits start early. Children under five are seen free of charge when a parent is registered with us, and we recommend check-ups every six to twelve months depending on age and risk of decay. From age six we monitor how adult teeth are developing and refer to trusted local orthodontic specialists whenever needed.
We are a six-surgery private practice in Highcliffe, proudly a Gold Member of BDA Good Practice for 21 years. You’ll always be seen by a team that knows you, with free parking on site and an out-of-hours emergency helpline for peace of mind.
We recommend bringing your child for their first dental check-up as soon as their first tooth appears, or by their first birthday. At Hoburne Dental Practice, we offer free examinations for children under five whose parents are registered with us, helping to establish positive oral health habits from an early age.
Yes, modern tooth-coloured fillings are highly durable and suitable for both front and back teeth. Advances in dental materials mean that white fillings now offer a long-lasting, natural-looking solution – especially when placed in dry conditions. If you’re considering replacing old silver fillings, please speak to our team about your options.
Preventing tooth decay starts with a strong oral hygiene routine. We advise brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, reducing sugar intake between meals, and attending regular dental check-ups. For patients at higher risk of cavities, we may recommend additional treatments such as fluoride varnish applications or prescription-strength fluoride toothpaste to provide extra protection.
No — the tooth and surrounding area are numbed before treatment begins, so you shouldn’t feel anything beyond slight pressure. Most fillings are completed comfortably in a single visit, and any post-treatment sensitivity usually settles within a few days.
